Associate Principal Counsel
ABC Entertainment group is seeking an experienced Associate Principal Counsel to be part of its Legal Affairs team.
Responsibilities
Negotiation, drafting and ongoing supervision of deals and productions for the ABC Entertainment Group. Reviewing and advising, as well as drafting, and negotiating, a wide variety of agreements, including acquisition and development of scripted and reality programming, movies-for-television, content licenses, marketing and promotional agreements and development and production of original programming. Analysis and advice in connection with legal rights and obligations, guild agreements, intellectual property matters, claims, clearances, and other matters arising out of the day-to-day operations of a national, commercial, free television network. Clients will include such other departments as Business Affairs, Creative, Development, Production, Production Finance, Marketing, Brand Management, Promotion, and S&P.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of law firm and/or in-house transactional experience, with at least 4 of those years as an entertainment lawyer at a production company, major studio, or television network. Expertise in the following areas: live action, scripted and/or alternative television production; distribution/acquisition agreements; talent guild agreements; copyright; trademark; clearances; defamation; 1st Amendment; rights of publicity and privacy, and other personal and property rights Strong drafting, negotiating and analytical skills. Exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills with the ability to work under deadlines and execute against multiple, high-priority projects with a keen attention to detail. Ability to perform duties under minimal supervision while exercising discretion and independent, sound judgment. A professional, confident demeanor and an ability to work well with colleagues and to communicate effectively and positively with clients and all levels of management, including providing counsel to senior level executives. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in a professional and creative manner. Computer literacy/proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience at a major law firm. Experience at a Broadcast or Cable Television Network.
Required Education
Admission to California State Bar Association (or Registered In-House Counsel)
