Broadcast Operations & Engineering (BO&E) 2012 Spring Internship (NY)
Broadcast Operations & Engineering (BO&E) is the group responsible for the engineering and technical support of the Disney-ABC Television Network. BO&E provides origination, distribution and support for the ABC Television Network as well as other business units within the network.
The Disney-ABC Television Group is currently offering spring BO&E internships in the following four areas:
CONTENT SYSTEMS AND ENGINEERING (CSES)
CSES participates in the development of technological strategies and technology solutions to assist the DATG’s television network’s transition to digital, high definition, VOD, and file based content workflows.
Engineering and Support Services plans, designs, builds and maintains all of the television production and broadcast facilities owned and operated by the TV network. From camera lens to transmitter, engineering provides the resources required to plan, construct and maintain all of the production and distribution systems needed to deliver programs to our viewers.
Sustaining engineering is the team of experts that supports the complex systems installed by engineering and serves as the tier 3 level support arm of the organization that “keeps the lights on.”
- Interns with CSES will assist the manager of technical construction in projects related to high voltage AC monitoring systems, configuration and installation of IP based monitoring tools, documentation of installed critical power systems and working with house electricians and engineering to redistribute loads on the critical power grid.
TECHNICAL SERVICES
Technical Services supports the editing and production operations of ABC News in New York. An extensive IT-based server system ingests all video used by ABC News, allows editing and playback of edited segments. The Media Systems department supports all audio, video and IT associated systems in a 24/7 news environment.
- Interns with Technical Services will assist with IT or electrical engineering interests. Design and documentation, including AutoCad and Visio, is needed to assist with changes in system configuration and to document a recently built and constantly modified facility. Familiarity with broadcast equipment and systems design would be a plus.
SYSTEMS SUPPORT
ABC, Inc. is a broad-based international media company with broadcasting, cable and publishing properties, as well as programming services and licenses, in more than 100 countries. The Broadcast Operations & Engineering division engineers and provides technical support for the ABC Television Network. The Network Graphics Technical Maintenance department supports and maintains all graphics technical facilities for the ABC Television Network.
- Interns with Systems Support will receive a broad understanding of the key role maintenance engineers play in television production and to expos the intern to specific graphics creation devices, maintenance and workflow.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS & AFFILIATE SUPPORT
BO&E Telecommunications is the content distribution organization of the ABC Television Network responsible for the design, implementation, management and support of the satellite distribution pathways that deliver ABC TV Network content to approximately 225 broadcast affiliates. Also, Telecommunications provides the majority of the contribution (content gathering) services required for the Daypart programmers of the ABC Television Network.
- Interns with BO&E Telecommunications will work as a resource to the Telecommunications Department, providing operational, business and administrative support required by the department.
Eligibility:
This internship program is open to undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in school and are in their junior year at a minimum.
Length:
The spring internship program runs approximately from May 2012 - August 2012.
Location:
New York, NY. Students must provide their own housing and transportation.

Compensation:
We offer an attractive hourly salary. Interns are not eligible for company medical benefits, holiday pay or sick pay.
